What is a gamer?

Everyone probably knows someone who plays games, or is a gamer themselves.
Our team set out to find out just what, and who, gamers are. We focused on three types of gaming: live action role-playing, video games, and table top games. These areas are as different as three genres can be, but share common threads. We wanted to know what drives gamers to play, what keeps them playing, and what happens when their gaming goes too far.
